For my JC tuition students, there are actually some who really
take responsibilities for themselves. And I'm rather impressed by
what some of them do to take charge of their own grades and change
themselves.
My best tuition students are those who actually work hard and
are willing to learn.
My worst ones are those who couldn't give a damn. I remember
quitting one job because the kid was more focused on doodling and
drawing cartoons than on the stuff that I was trying to teach
him.
Hell, he tried to smoke me by writing all sorts of nonsense for
the book reviews I made him write to improve his English. Nice try,
kid, but you can't smoke me when I've already read those same books
before and know their plots inside out....
When I quit, his mom offered to cut my hours and raise my pay in
an effort to get me to stay.
To which I told her straight: 'Your son's attitude is
wasting my effort. And when my effort is wasted, then I'm just
cheating you of your money.'
